DIY Wedding Sign Inspiration

DIY Wedding Sign Inspiration: Buy or Make?

I don't know about the rest of you all, but aren't you just floored at all of the amazing home decor and wedding decor ideas floating around on Pinterest?  I've got boards filled to the gills (and to the point of not even knowing what pins I actually have anymore-oops).  From amazing DIY tutorials to awesome, already made, ready for purchase signs; it's an enormous pool to draw from if you're specifically looking for quality ideas and projects and something that's original, unique or personalized for your family or home.

For this week's blog post, I really wanted to focus in on all of the amazing things you (or I) could make with the simplest of supplies... I mean think about it, how many places of business do you drive by and see them discarding pallets?  Why NOT go and ask for those throw-away pallets that have been tossed aside and turn them into something beautiful?  With a little paint, perhaps some templates from the craft store (Ranging from .49-$5.00) for cool lettering or script effects, a simple little jig-saw and some stain for the wood and you could TRULY create some personalized, amazing art for your event or home.

While out in Colorado a few weeks back for a big wedding, I was especially struck and LOVED walking throughout the reception venue, discovering all of the added touches  that were like seeing my Pinterest boards brought to life.

The couple had spent months ahead of time (see our last blog post) along side their children, plugging away and creating all of these awesome, welcoming, fun and charming touches...

There was cute signage welcoming guests and awaiting the adults up at the bar reading, "Alcohol, because no great love story started with someone eating a salad."

Another adorable sign welcomed guests in to an entire corner turned photo-booth area;  photo props like mustaches, glasses and silly signs as well as fun feather accessories filled the area which also included a backdrop for the photo shenanigans and printer for guests to take home their fun, memorable shots.

Perhaps my favorite piece from the evening; the happy couple's non-traditional guest book!  Tell me again, why on earth these weren't thought of when I got married??? Sweet, small wooden hearts

and markers awaited guests to sign their best wishes and sentiments to insert into a frame and commemorate the event forever in a beautiful decor keepsake for the newlywed's home.  Absolutely, a beautiful piece I'm sure they will cherish.  (I mean seriously, how CUTE is that with their adorable chalkboard sign accompanying the entire sign-in table?)

Now, I realize... Some of us (guilty here!) have some grand ideas and even more grand Pinterest boards to daydream about creating personal pieces like all of these.  However, personally, I can plan to set aside time to work on these projects but sadly; by the time that "time" comes around, I'm either tired, something else has popped up (like a rescheduled make-up baseball game) or some other random, family added "to-do" has taken precedence and it's all just sitting in a heap still in my office. (Not to mention it adds to my already struggling piles of attempted organization.  Sigh...)

A Country Pallet Creation
So, the beauty in this is that there ARE options for reasonably priced, either already made or made-to-order places to buy these items.  First, check your local Etsy listings (Tip: manage your settings to pull up local crafters to minimize shipping costs  all together with a pick-up of the item!)

I  actually got really lucky in knowing a very special lady who designs and  creates these types of pieces alongside her husband. Country Pallet Creations is their hobby and side-business that they've recently started and is sure growing in popularity!  Based in Oregon and run from their home, the two take your ideas or Pinterest finds and turn them into the personalized and unique sign you've got your heart set on.  (Would you look at this cute sign I fell in love with and had her make me?  "Love" is painted on the pallet and accented with adorable burlap string and rosettes.)

The little "mom & pop" shop is just brimming with adorable creations!  If you have time, do yourself a favor and check them out on Facebook.  You can find tons of photos of their past projects to either create something similar or slightly different to accent your personal home decor, etc.,  Below are a few of my favorites from their past creations:

Last, if you DO have the time to attack some of these pallet style DIY projects; I have some great links for you! This one is by the Salt and Pepper Moms blog.  They literally walk you through taking the pallet apart and give you a step by step walk through the entire way!  One of my favorites of theirs- I had actually pinned to one of my Pinterest boards before I had yet even discovered their awesome blog! "Be The Good" is highlighted in the text "Believe There Is Good In The World".

Another great DIY tutorial is by The Turquoise Home .  It's a great blog, full of DIY projects, completely gives you a list of supplies you need for each project and then walks you through, start to finish, photo by photo.

One last DIY tutorial is by House of Hepworth's blog.  Another great, step-by-step tutorial that includes lots of great photos for guidance and also uses not just pallets, but also leftover wood fencing!  Definitely worth checking out!

Alright, enjoy your crafting or buying!! Until next time....
